Palestinian medics and witnesses said five civilians were killed and 26 injured in Israeli tank shelling. The Israel military said four of its soldiers were injured when a patrol vehicle was struck in a rocket attack by Palestinian militants. Two of the injured were seriously wounded. Defence Minister Ehud Barak warned that Israel would not tolerate a further escalation of violence.
