United States Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro visited the site of the newly-deployed Iron Dome battery in southern Israel on Thursday, April 05, 2012. Ambassador Shapiro met with the Israeli Air Force Air Defense Forces Commander Brig Gen. Doron Gavish, battery commander Capt. Revital Uzan and battery soldiers. The ambassador was briefed on the threats posed by rockets from Gaza and the deployment of the fourth battery. Ambassador Shapiro congratulated the battery's officers and soldiers for their service to the state of Israel and the security partnership between the United States and Israel. In light of the recent success of Iron Dome and the continuing threat of missiles, the Ambassador mentioned that the Obama administration has announced it will soon ask the U.S. Congress to help fund development of more Iron Dome batteries in the coming years. Ambassador Shapiro also reacted to the missile attack in Eilat and said that the U.S. is concerned by the threats posed from Gaza and from Sinai and reiterated the American support for Israel's right to defend itself. Ambassador Shapiro also wished the battery's officers and soldiers a happy and kosher Passover holiday.
