Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stands in front of a Sand Cat vehicle bearing the Bulgarian flag, during a presentation of the vehicle outside the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, Monday, Jan. 11, 2010. The Sand Cat (also Plasan Caracal) is a composite armored vehicle designed by Palsan of Israel. Built on a commercial Ford 550 chassis, the four-wheel-drive, 90-mile-per-hour vehicle is specifically designed to fill a void between the up-armored Humvee and the anticipated Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). At the 2008 Eurosatory exposition in Paris, the Sand Cat was shown branded as an Oshkosh Corporation product. The leading Israeli vehicle manufacturer & armor systems solution company Plasan announced the successful delivery and new contract for further delivery of Sand Cat vehicles. A Ford subcontractor in Israel, Plasan won a contract for the delivery of 79 armored SandCat vehicles to the Israeli police. The first SandCat vehicles units are expected to be delivered by February 2010, following recent delivery of 25 SandCats as part of a business contact with the Bulgarian Army in cooperation with the Oshkosh Corporation.
