Palestinians hold up slogans against Israels blockade on the Gaza Strip during a demonstration at Erez crossing, northern Gaza, on November 18, 2008. The top United Nations human rights official today called on Israel to immediately lift its blockade of the Gaza Strip which she said violates international law. The UN resumed food distribution to half of Gaza's population earlier today but warned aid supplies would soon run out unless Israel eases its crippling blockade. Photo by Ashraf Amra

The Hamas-run Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip has said that due to power outages, the main hospitals in Gaza were depending on generators for electricity and warned that any failure to those generators could paralyze critical departments of the hospital and put patients? life in danger. The World Health Organization reported that hospitals in Gaza remain operational in spite of the power cuts. The hospitals currently have enough fuel to operate their emergency generators. However, there is growing fear in hospitals and clinics regarding increased dependency on the back-up generators to run medical services including surgical operations. These generators are in place for emergency use only and could fail any time Photo by Ashraf Amra / FLASH90
