An ambulance bearing Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon enters Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital outside Jerusalem late on Wednesday,January 4, 2006, after Sharon at his ranch in southern Israel complained of "not feeling well." A short while after arriving a hospital spokesman announced that Sharon had suffered a "significant stroke" and a short while later it was reported that Sharon was undergoing surgery. The powers of government have been handed over to Ehud Olmert, Sharon Deputy and the current Finance Minister.

Israeli police secures the area as hospital personnel cover the entry of the emergency room as Prime Minister Ariel Sharon arrives in an ambulance to the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem Wednesday January 4, 2006. Sharon was rushed to a hospital late Wednesday after feeling unwell, less than three weeks after suffering a mild stroke and just hours before he was to undergo a heart procedure. A hospital official says Sharon has suffered a "significant" stroke.
